The City of Farmington Hills believes strongly in the value of the arts and invites regional artists to submit work for consideration for exhibit as part of the Public Art Program at The Hawk and Farmington Hills City Hall. This is an opportunity for artists to show their work to a broader audience and be part of a thriving art community.
The Hawk, the newest Farmington Hills' Community Center, has over thirty original works of art that hang year-round to enhance the experience of the hundreds of people who visit the building. In June, the first cycle of artwork will have been up for two years and we plan to roll out a new cycle of artwork this summer.
Artwork will be installed at The Hawk beginning in July and will be on loan for a 2-year display period. Because of the sheer size of the building, we are looking for medium to large-scale 2D and 3D pieces that have a WOW factor. Artists may submit up to 5 pieces of artwork that they would like to commit to the program. Only 1 image is required for submission. All artwork must be of professional quality and if chosen, wired and ready to display. Artists can designate which building they would like their art to be displayed in or can choose both. If the item is sold during the exhibit period, the artist will get 100% of the price, but must keep the artwork up until the end of the exhibit time period.
Our staff has been asked specifically to look out for pieces that are related to Farmington Hills by showing the beauty and opportunity that this area provides. If you have artwork that tells the story of our city, please let us know. Examples include: skateboard art referencing the Riley Skatepark in Founders Park, photography from the golf course or Heritage Park, scrap sculpture from automotive-supplier headquarters, plein air painting from the Farmington Art Foundation, fiber art or wood-based sculpture made in the Makerspace, etc.
Farmington Hills City Hall is a local art gallery with paintings, sculpture and mixed media installations throughout. Over 60 local artists are chosen to exhibit work for the 2-year Public Art Program and five from this pool are chosen to have a solo show in the Rotating Exhibits Gallery close to Council Chambers. Artwork for City Hall will be juried in September and installed in December and will be on loan for a 2-year display period.
