City of Farmington Hills, Commission on Aging Seek Nominations to Recognize Outstanding Volunteers

Nominations are open through Friday, Feb. 21, 2025

The City of Farmington Hills and the Farmington Area Commission on Aging are seeking nominations for the annual Volunteer Recognition Program to honor outstanding volunteers in the community. Nominations are open through Friday, Feb. 21 and awards will be presented at a recognition breakfast this spring.

“We encourage everyone to nominate the inspiring individuals who make a difference in the community,” said Marsha Koet, supervisor of the Farmington Hills Special Services Department Adults 50 & Better Division. “There are so many exceptional volunteers who graciously give their time and talent to better the community, and this awards program allows us to properly thank them for their contributions.”

Awards include the Commission on Aging Margaret Loridas Diamond Award for volunteers 75 & better and the Gold Award for volunteers 50 & better. Candidates for these awards must be active volunteers providing community service in the Farmington Hills/Farmington area. The Commission will also be recognizing a community-based organization or business that goes above and beyond to serve the older adults of Farmington Hills and Farmington with the Community Commitment Award. The City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department Adults 50 & Better Division and the Commission on Aging are also seeking nominations for the Volunteer of the Year Awards. Nominees for these awards must be active volunteers in programs offered through the Adults 50 & Better Division.

Nomination forms are available at the Costick Activities Center and online at www.fhgov.com/coaawards. Anyone may submit nominations through Feb. 21 to be considered for these prestigious awards. Awards will be presented at the volunteer recognition breakfast in April, which is attended by more than 250 volunteers and honored guests annually.

Formed in 1977, the Farmington Area Commission on Aging works to support the betterment of daily living for older adults in Farmington Hills and Farmington, with the mission of promoting their well-being and dignity through education and advocacy. The Adults 50 & Better Division, part of the City’s Special Services Department, now provides recreation, travel, education, social events, fitness, volunteer opportunities, nutrition, transportation and outreach services. Daily events are held at the Costick Activities Center, located at 28600 West Eleven Mile Road, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with scheduled evening and weekend programs.
