Farmington Hills Police Arrest Man After He Shot At His Wife Multiple Times and Barricaded Himself in Home
The 44-year-old is facing multiple felony charges
A Farmington Hills man is facing felonious assault charges following a Farmington Hills Police Department investigation. Officers responded to the 29000 block of Ramblewood Dr., near 14 Mile Road and Middlebelt Road, Saturday, Nov. 30 at approximately 5:30 p.m., after receiving a 911 call reporting that a husband had shot at his wife multiple times while inside the residence.
Officers spoke with the wife who reported that her husband, 44-year-old Paul Holland, was intoxicated and became aggressive towards her. She stated that she armed herself with a firearm in self-defense. The intoxicated man then armed himself with two handguns and began shooting into the ceiling, walls and towards her. The wife fled the home and met Farmington Hills Police Officers who ensured her safety.
The Farmington Hills Police Department attempted to de-escalate the situation and have the husband exit the home peacefully; however, he ignored all commands to exit the home. A search warrant was obtained, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team forced entry into the home where the husband was safely arrested. No one was injured during this incident, due to the actions of all involved.
After a thorough investigation, Farmington Hills Police detectives submitted their findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, which issued a four-count warrant, charging Holland with felonious assault, discharging a firearm in a building, and two counts of felony firearm.
Paul Holland was arraigned on these charges before Magistrate Hart of the 47th District Court on Monday, Dec. 2. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf and bond was set at $250,000 – 10% cash or surety. A Pre-Exam Conference is set for Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Parker.
“I am extremely proud of the heroic actions of the women and men of the Farmington Hills Police Department,” said Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King. “They were calm and courageous in the face of danger and were able to expertly de-escalate a violent situation that could have resulted in great harm to those involved, as well as the neighboring community.” Chief King also expressed gratitude to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
