Michigan Broadband Committee
In 2018, the Joint Municipal Broadband Taskforce was formed and asked to explore ways to accelerate the deployment of next-generation and fiber optic networks in Farmington and Farmington Hills, and determining how these networks can best serve the public.
High-speed broadband internet access is a vital component in the City’s plan for economic growth and development. The Taskforce began with the premise that broadband internet is a critically important 4th utility, along with electricity, gas and water. Throughout the research project, the Taskforce explored options that would create equal access to high-speed, reliable, and affordable broadband internet service to every home and business within our two cities.
The cities of Farmington and Farmington Hills jointly hired CCG Consulting to undertake a feasibility study to analyze the current broadband market in the cities and to make recommendations regarding the viability of building a new broadband network that would address the current broadband gaps and provide capacity for future growth. The Study was presented at a joint Farmington/Farmington Hills study session January 25, 2021. Below is a link to the study as well as a copy of the PowerPoint that was presented.
