City of Farmington Hill Resumes Yard Waste Collection Starting the Week of April 1, 2024

Yard waste collection will run through the week of Dec. 9, 2024

The City of Farmington Hills is pleased to announce the return of yard waste collection services, starting the week of April 1-5, 2024. This marks the beginning of the eagerly anticipated spring clean-up season, providing residents with convenient curbside pick-up to tidy up their yards and prepare for beautiful flower plantings.

Yard Waste Collection Procedures
City residents are encouraged to embrace the spirit of renewal by participating in the City's yard waste collection program. To ensure efficient service, residents are kindly reminded to place their yard waste at the curbside using brown paper yard waste bags or 35-gallon trash cans with yard waste stickers on both sides. These stickers, available free of charge from City Hall or the Department of Public Works, signify a commitment to keeping the City clean and green. Additionally, residents have the option to recycle leaves and grass clippings into their lawns using a mulching mower, contributing to a healthier and more vibrant landscape.

Yard Waste Requirements
In the spirit of community beautification, the City encourages residents to adhere to yard waste guidelines. Acceptable yard waste includes leaves, grass, shrub clippings, twigs, and plant materials. Brush and small limbs with a diameter of six inches or less must be bundled, each bundle being less than four feet long and weighing less than 60 pounds. Unbundled brush, large limbs, and significant amounts of dirt or sod will not be collected. It's important that brush or twigs do not protrude above the container's rim, ensuring safe and efficient collection for all residents.

Composting
As part of its commitment to sustainability, the City is pleased to offer residents free self-serve compost from May through September. This nutrient-rich compost, available at the William Grace Dog Park, located at 29040 Shiawassee Road, provides residents with a valuable resource for enriching their gardens and landscaping projects. Those taking advantage of this service are encouraged to bring their own shovels and containers for collection, promoting responsible stewardship of our natural resources.

Yard waste collection will continue on the regularly scheduled garbage pickup days through the week of Dec. 9–13, 2024. For further details, inquiries can be directed to the Department of Public Works at 248-871-2850 or by visiting www.fhgov.com/trash.
