Triple Triumph: City of Farmington Hills Department of Public Services Achieves Third Consecutive Industry Accreditation
The City of Farmington Hills is the only city in the state to receive American Public Works Association accreditation, underscoring the City’s commitment to delivering services at the highest level
The City's Department of Public Services has successfully achieved its third consecutive accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). As one of only three accredited agencies in Michigan, and the sole accredited city, this achievement underscores Farmington Hills’ unwavering commitment to excellence in public service and recognizes that the Department is in full compliance with the recommended management practices set forth in APWA’s Public Works Management Practices Manual. Since 2016, the Farmington Hills Department of Public Works has been accredited through the APWA.
“Being the only city with an accredited public works department in Michigan is a testament to the hard work of the City’s Public Services Department,” said Jacob Rushlow, director of the City of Farmington Hills Department of Public Services. “This level of service is made possible by the more than 60 dedicated staff members who ensure successful delivery of services to Farmington Hills residents, visitors and business owners.”
The APWA Accreditation Program offers public works agencies a prestigious opportunity to achieve accreditation through a rigorous evaluation and review process. This process not only verifies compliance with APWA best practices, but also recognizes agencies that meet these high standards. The re-accreditation process builds on the original accreditation, encouraging continuous improvement and compliance with newly identified practices. Re-accreditation is required every four years.
The City of Farmington Hills Department of Public Services is dedicated to maintaining and improving quality of life through efficient and effective public works operations, including maintaining roads, watermains and sewers, recycling and trash collection. With a long-standing history of excellence that reflects the City’s commitment to providing top-tier services to the community, the APWA re-accreditation is another step toward the City maintaining and exceeding nationally recognized industry standards.
The purpose of accreditation is to promote excellence in the operation and management of a public works agency, its programs and employees. The voluntary nature of the APWA Accreditation Program allows agencies to evaluate and strive for continuous improvement of operations and management, providing a valid and objective evaluation of agency programs as a service to the public and the profession. This process fosters a culture of excellence, enhances operational performance and promotes team building, in addition to aiding in succession planning and institutional knowledge retention.
