Prisoners and Bonds

Inquiries about prisoners held at the Farmington Hills Police Department and how to bond a prisoner out of our jail can be directed to Police Command Desk personnel by calling (248) 871-2610.  The Court sets the amount of a bond.  Individuals charged with felonies, or certain types of misdemeanors, are not eligible for bond until they go to court and are arraigned.  After a prisoner is arraigned, he or she will be transferred to the Oakland County Jail, located at 1200 Telegraph Road in Pontiac, (248) 858-4950, unless bond is posted before being transported. All bonds posted at the Farmington Hills Police Department must be cash.

Vehicle Lockouts

The design of modern vehicles and the existence of side airbags create a danger for officers trying to unlock a vehicle.  The Farmington Hills Police Department does not perform vehicle lockouts, except for emergencies.  If you lock your keys in your vehicle contact a local tow company for assistance.  If a child is locked in a vehicle the Fire Department and Police Department will respond and gain access.

Extra Police Patrols

If you live or work in Farmington Hills and feel that the police should be aware of information (such as on-going problems, suspicious activity, stalking or continuing victimization), you should call the Farmington Hills police at (248) 871-2610 and provide this information to a Command Desk Personnel.

Animal Complaints

A missing or runaway pet or complaints regarding stray pets, should be reported to the Oakland County Animal Shelter at (248) 391-4102 and the Farmington Hills Police Department at (248) 871-2610.  All lost or stray pets found by the Farmington Hills Police Department are turned over to the Oakland County Animal Shelter.  The Farmington Hills Police Department maintains a record of any reported pet that is found or lost in the City.  If you have lost or found a pet please call (248) 871-2600.
 
Any animal complaints such as animal bites, vicious animals, or a barking dog complaint please call the Farmington Hills Police Department (248) 871-2600.  Call 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.

Personal Protection Orders

A Personal Protection Order, commonly known as a “PPO”, is a court order intended to protect you from being harassed, beaten, assaulted, molested, wounded or stalked. The PPO prohibits a named individual from doing these things to you. It also prohibits the named individual from entering your premises and removing your children, unless there is an overriding court order.

To obtain a PPO you must go to the Oakland County Circuit Court (6th Circuit Court) at 1200 North Telegraph in Pontiac. You can contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Civil Division, located in the same complex, at 1200 North Telegraph in Pontiac, or call (248) 452-9725.

Complaints Involving Police Employees

It is the policy of the Farmington Hills Police Department to investigate all complaints of alleged employee misconduct, to equitably determine whether the allegations are valid and to take appropriate action.

Traffic Services

The Traffic Section’s primary duty is to ensure the safety of the motoring public.  This section investigates serious crashes and conducts crash follow-up investigations.  Other duties include warrant preparation for serious traffic offenses and traffic enforcement at targeted problem areas.  This section also manages the school crossing guards, abandoned vehicles and various other programs.

Motor Carrier Program

The Traffic Section has operated a Motor Carrier Enforcement program since 1997.  The program’s objectives are two-fold:  first, to ensure the safety of the motoring public by assuring that truck drivers are obeying traffic laws and operating properly equipped vehicles; and second, to reduce potential damage to City roads by identifying improperly loaded or overloaded trucks. 

Handicap Parking Volunteer Program

This program involves the assistance of volunteer citizens to help enforce handicap-parking and fire lane regulations.  Participants who meet specific qualifications are responsible for issuing citations to illegally parked vehicles in handicap designated parking spaces.  This program was instituted in 1990.  Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Traffic Section at (248) 871-2630.

Request for a Traffic Control Device

Requests for the placement of traffic control devices, such as speed bumps or stop signs, should be made to the City’s Traffic Engineer at (248) 871-2560.

Reporting a Traffic Crash

Michigan law requires a written report to be filed if the crash occurred on a public roadway and resulted in an injury or combined damage in excess of $1,000.  It is best to report a traffic crash at the time it occurs.  Officers will respond to the scene when summoned to file such a report.  If you are filing a traffic crash report at a later time or date, you will need to contact the other involved party or parties and schedule a mutually acceptable time for all parties to appear at the station. It is necessary for all parties involved in a crash to be present when making a report so discrepancies can be resolved. If possible, you should drive the involved vehicle so the officer taking the report may inspect the damage.  Reports can be made 24 hours a day at the Command Desk of the Police Department.

Abandoned Vehicles on Private Property

The Traffic Safety Section assists private property owners with removing abandon vehicles left on their property.  The vehicles are only removed at the request of the property owners.  The Traffic Safety Section responds to verify the vehicle is not stolen and notifies the Secretary of State that the vehicle has been impounded.  The Secretary of State notifies the registered owner of the vehicle that their vehicle has been impounded.

Traffic Fines

Fines for traffic offenses are established by the 47th District Court.  Requests to schedule hearings to appeal a citation should be directed to the court by the date indicated on the front of the citation.  The court can be contacted Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at (248) 871-2900.

The 47th District Court is located behind the Farmington Hills City Hall and Police Department at the corner of Eleven Mile and Orchard Lake Roads.  The court address is 31605 West Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI  48336.

Seasonal Weight Restrictions for Commercial Vehicles

Starting on Thursday, March 14, 2019, "Frost Laws" will be in effect with a 25% weight reduction on the designated Class A roadways and 35% reduction on Class B roadways.

The Directed Patrol Unit is a specialized unit that identifies and addresses crime patterns within the City of Farmington Hills.  The unit is made up of several officers and is directly supervised by a sergeant.  DPU supports the Patrol Division with calls for service and focuses on specific crime issues when they’re identified.

Crime Reporting

Emergencies may be reported by dialing 9-1-1.  Non-emergency police incidents occurring within the jurisdiction of the Farmington Hills Police Department may be reported in person at any time. Non-emergency reports may be made at the Command Desk at the Police Department.  If you are currently in the city, you may call 248-871-2600 to have a police car dispatched to your location.  Questions or inquiries may be directed to the Police Command Desk at (248) 871-2610.

Crime Tips

The Department encourages crime tip reporting. Properly reported tips are assigned to an investigator for follow up. Tipsters may remain anonymous and/or request that their identities remain confidential. Call (248) 871-2610 to report a crime tip or for further information.

Domestic Violence

How to Report Domestic Violence to Police

If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1 or ask a neighbor to call if you are unable.  If you are not in immediate danger but wish to report the incident, call the Farmington Hills Police Department non-emergency number (248) 871-2600, or come to the Farmington Hills Police Department.  This should be done as soon as possible after the incident to preserve evidence.  You should also seek medical attention for any injuries you may have suffered.

Personal Protection Order

A PPO can be obtained from the Oakland County Courthouse located at 1200 N. Telegraph in Pontiac.  The PPO form is available at the Juvenile Intake Division on the ground floor of the Courthouse.  You can get assistance in completing the form at the Women’s Survival Center, also located on the ground floor of the Courthouse.

Farmington Hills Police Department’s Unsolved Incidents

DANIELLE STISLICKI - MISSING PERSON
Danielle Stislicki, a 28 year old Farmington Hills resident, was last seen Dec. 2, 2016. She left her job at MetLife in Southfield and was never seen again. Her Jeep was found a day later, parked outside her home at the Independence Green apartments in the area of Halsted and Grand River in Farmington Hills.  Investigators believe that Danielle was the victim of a homicide.  The public should be alert for any potential evidence.  Evidence could be out in the open or concealed inside objects such as bags, containers, suitcases, trunks or bedding.  Items to be watchful for are Danielle’s sky blue colored three-in-one Eddie Bauer coat, black zip-up shirt, blue jeans, and burgundy boots.  The public is also asked to look for a tan and brown striped comforter, which could also be important to this case.

Up to $125,000 in rewards may be available from private sources in this case.

MACHEK MURDER – The Farmington Hills Police Department is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of an international fugitive, Edgardo Luis Perez, who is wanted for murder, international flight, and the unauthorized use of the murder victim’s credit card.  The victim, Gordon Machek, was discovered murdered in his Farmington Hills home on October 20, 2001.

Edgardo Perez is a former resident of Beverly Hills, Michigan.  He may be hiding in Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, or the United States.

Investigators are still looking for the victim’s remains and the missing black-colored steamer trunk believed to contain the body.  The trunk looks like a pirate’s chest.  It is 2’x4’x3’ with metal straps, handles, and a pull-out wooden tray.

WANTED FOR HOMICIDE

Edgardo Perez, Hispanic male, age 19 at date of murder, 5’6”, 140 lbs., brown hair, brown eyes, no scars.

MCKENZIE MURDER– Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any information regarding the murder of Darlene Rene’ McKenzie.
In June of 1975, Oakland County Road Commission employees found the remains of a young female in the area of I-696 east of Haggerty Road.  The Oakland County Medical Examiner determined the young female was the victim of a homicide.  The victim remained unidentified until 2016, when she was matched to a missing person report made by her now adult daughter.  Through DNA collected from her daughter, the victim was identified as Darlene Rene’ McKenzie.  Darlene was 15 years old at the time of her death and was a resident of Detroit.

School Liaison Officers

The Department, in cooperation with the Farmington Public Schools, assigns School Liaison Officers to provide law enforcement resources to all Farmington Hills schools. The School Liaison Program has been in effect since 1989. School Liaison Officers maintain offices at North Farmington and Harrison High Schools. These officers investigate incidents that occur on school property, serve as resources for school administration, staff and students, and provide a link between the students and the Police Department.
