City of Farmington Hills Prepares for Mid-February Winter Storm, Reminds Residents of Snow Plowing Procedures
Residential roads will be plowed if snowfall totals over four inches in a 24-hour period
In anticipation of significant snowfall in mid-February, the City has implemented several initiatives aimed at keeping community members and drivers safe.
Snow Plowing
After a substantial snowfall during which four or more inches fall within a 24-hour period, all local streets – including residential streets – will be promptly plowed within two days. Additional time may be needed to complete snow removal after heavier, wetter snowfalls and depending upon the severity and duration of the storm.
When local streets are being plowed, residents can track progress in real-time through the snowplow progress map on the City’s website. This tool allows residents to enter their address and monitor ongoing or completed plowing activities.
The City’s full winter maintenance policy is available here on the City’s website.
Street Parking and Snow Management
Residents are strongly encouraged to move their vehicles into driveways and garages to facilitate efficient snow plowing and prompt emergency response, in addition to ensuring safe streets for all. The City acknowledges potential challenges for residents hosting guests and requests cooperation as much as possible.
Accumulation of snow at driveway entrances following plowing is inevitable and the City appreciates residents' understanding, patience and cooperation in managing this unavoidable circumstance. This snow accumulation is called a windrow and is an unintended consequence of plowing. For more information on windrows, visit the windrows FAQ page on the City’s website.
